KAREN BERRY?

Virtues that are critical to any councillor are INTEGRITY and RESPECT. Karen knows councillors must have both and she will bring these to Council.

Other important virtues are accountability and consultation. Karen knows how to achieve these through her committee work.

Truth and trust are inseparable from INTEGRITY and Karen is determined that both will be a part of all Council’s decisions.

Elected councillors are required by law to consult with constituents and Karen is keen to get to know better the people of the new Gympie region.

FAIRNESS and COURTESY are fundamental values Karen learnt during her years working as a fax field-service technician and as an electronics instructor.

Over all, Karen knows that the most important attribute a councillor can, and must, have is RESPECT.

Respect: for all aspects of Council, its decisions and its constituents, for justice and for democracy.

Karen learnt RESPECT during her nine years in the in the RAN and while a member of the Naval Association.

Accountability is crucial in Council and is something Karen knows all too well - again from her Navy service.

Representation in Council is something to which every ratepayer and resident is entitled. Karen will be happy to represent YOU.

Even trivial tasks often require dogged dedication. Karen learnt this when working as a technical writer and editor for Boeing Australia.

Nominating as a candidate for the first time is not to Karen’s disadvantage! She will bring fresh new ideas and energy to Council.

Better management of Council’s finances is paramount: Karen knows that Gympie Region’s infrastructure (roads, water and sewerage) is sorely in need of work.

Equitable building and planning decisions must be achievable for everyone and Karen will work hard to ensure this occurs.

Responsibility for her actions will be a trait Karen will be known for: there will be NO buck-passing. She will also bring CREDIBILITY to  Council.

Residents and ratepayers will have a say in Council’s decisions, says Karen, and there will be NO secret meetings where the public is not permitted. Honesty will be the best policy in any council she is a part of.
